Panama’s tourism industry has been claimed as the number one industry in the country, with an increase by 24%. In turn the tourism authorities and developers have worked hard and continue to do so in developing this very lucrative market. There are over 104 new hotel developments, in progress, in Panama City alone. The tourism authority allocated 30% of their marketing budget to the European market in 2008, the effects of which are bearing fruit. A repeat of this investment is envisaged for 2009.
The country received over 8000 tourists from the UK, last year, and this year it is set to surpass this mark, with over 7400 UK visitors by this summer already. Investors from the UK are already featuring strongly in various property developments, and continue to look for value added investments and vacation options.
