Panama and Qatar future investment

Negotiations between Panama and Qatar are proceeding with the possible eventuality of Qatar placing substantial investments into Panama, as confirmed by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Panama.
Qatar has expressed wishes of bilateral agreement in investment in advanced technology and infrastructure related capital projects within Panama. Qatar has substantial investments in Mexico, Peru and Colombia, and is looking to further enhance its investment portfolio within the region.
Qatar Petroleum expressed interest, in 2007, of developing a refinery in Chiriqui Province. Although no formal agreements have been made, the current negotiations are expected to address the possibility of such a refinery in that area. This sort of capital project will provide major benefits for people of the region from an employment perspective, as well as a cost saving in terms of fuel prices for people in the region.
