The second round of talks to establish a Free Trade Agreement between Panama and Canada has been undertaken, with focus being on market access regulation. Panama who awaits the ratification of the Commercial Promotion Agreement with the United States, seeks the FTA with Canada to strengthen Panama’s commercial development in the western hemisphere.
The commercial exchange between Panama and Canada was estimated over $700 million in 2008, with the Panamanian products of coffee, fish oil, shrimp, papaya and watermelon enjoying an established position in the Canadian market. Canada has invested over $106 million in Panama’s mining sector to date.
These talks are expected to last until Friday, with experts discussing issues surrounding commercial facilitation, technicalities and product distribution and circulation.
