COSCO helps builds classrooms

The Cosco Panama Maritime Company, which donated just under $30,000 to the Panama International Maritime University (UMIP), was honored in the naming of the newly constructed building, Cosco Hall Building. The funds were used to finance the roofing of the building, which will provide 10 new classrooms, a comprehensive care clinic and a teacher’s room. The original building was destroyed by a fire in January 2008 and reconstruction started in February 2008. The building situated in Albrook will provide better training facilities for the students at UMIP.

The newly opened Cosco Hall will house 31 first year cadets per class, accommodating a total of 310 students.

Officially opened, in a ribbon cutting ceremony, by Captain Zhang Fucun general manager of Cosco, in attendance were Maria Dixon representing the previous rector of UMIP, as well as the current rector Victor Luna Barahona, who duly thanked Captain Fucun for Cosco’s valuable donation and involvement in the project. Captain Fucun further added that Cosco is fully committed to the training and education of individuals within the shipping and related disciplines and confirmed future support to the academia.
