Increased Flights to Panama

Recent announcements by the Spanish airline carrier Iberia, confirm Panama’s position as one of the top ranking tourist destinations in the world. An additional flight will be added, with effect January 4th on the carrier’s Madrid Guatemala Panama route. Despite the company’s Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday existing flights, strong demands have indicated necessity for the additional flight on a Sunday. This new flight comes a mere 5 months after the addition of their 4th flight, which is purely indicative of the demand by European travelers.

Although the industry is at a low level, Iberia in response to market demand as well as competitor driven actions has decided that expansion is key to fighting against negative market forces. Iberia is expected to carry an estimated 357,000 passengers between Europe and Central America in 2009, which represents a 26% increase on 2007 figures.

The competitor KLM has increased their flights from 3 to 5 weekly flights, also based upon strong demand, from the European traveler.

Demand continues to grow for the tourist destination of Panama, due to its well located and well developed tourism structure and amenities, as more travelers are increasing finding out the value in the Central American State of Panama.
