El Valle Panama
Thursday, July 16, 2009 10:34A two hours drive from Panama City, El Valle de Anton is one of the weekend destinations for tourists. A fertile volcanic valley abundant with flora and lush terrain, El Valle is considered one of the most beautiful nature spots on Earth. Varieties of flowers and amazing trees abound, made possible by the fertile volcanic soil. The peaks of the dormant volcano consist of the Cerro Pajita, Cerro Gaital and Cerro Carocoral peaks.
Nature hikes, bird watching, and other activities are available for El Valle’s visitors. The El Nispero zoo offers viewing of various indigenous animals in their natural habitat as well as a variety of birds for bird watchers to appreciate. The 70 meter high El Macho waterfalls is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the region, whilst the canopy and zip lining tours are available for the adventurous. For the less daring, there are trail hikes through the cool dense forests where various flora and fauna are also a spectacle for visitors to witness and appreciate.
El Valle also offers a therapeutic remedy for visiting tourists, with the thermal pools. These hot water springs consist of therapeutic mud baths to soothe tourists’ aching bodies.
For those looking for a piece of Panamanian history, there are petroglyphs, which are stone writings on large vertical rocks, well worth viewing. Local artworks, crafts, wood carvings, and sculptures are also available for those wanting to bring pieces of old Panamanian culture back with them, as a souvenir.
With an ideal cool year round climate, and the slow pace of life in this area, tourists are bound to forget the fast paced life of urban living that they are accustomed to. This is what happens when one steps into El Valle.
