Free trade agreement versus healthcare

Recent media reports indicate that the Obama administration may well be more in favour of healthcare reform than that of the free trade agreement with Panama, amongst other agreements set in motion by the Bush administration.

The proposed Panama free trade agreement received considerable support, in the view of the potential benefits held for US businesses, however numerous House Democrats raised a concern regarding this free trade agreement and it now appears as though this might be shelved in lieu of healthcare reform policies. This political move is seen as a possible stimulus to promote unity amongst Democrats, especially in the House of Representatives.

Many have raised concerns regarding US employment, and see the free trade agreement as a potential threat to union jobs as well as American firms.
