Port Colon 2000, which saw the departure of Royal Caribbean’s Enchantment of the Seas, stands to benefit from the tremendous spin off that related tourism will generate due to the port being the home port for this huge cruise ship.

The $15 million investment in the new terminal stands to realize numerous benefits in terms of job creation and additional tourism spending within the immediate vicinity. As a home port for the Enchantment of the Seas, the supply and delivery of provisions for the cruise ship requires additional labor at the port and therefore represents economic benefit for that area.

Hotels and tourist areas are sure to benefit from the amount of tourists that will pass through the city to embark on the huge liner, as well as on disembarkation.

Royal Caribbean has committed to a two season trial with Port Colon 2000, with positive results ensuring a longer commitment.

Vice President Arosemena, who was present at the ships ‘inaugural’ sailing from their home base stressed the importance of streamlined tourist services and transfers, as well as improved immigration handling procedures. Arosemena also cited interested cruise companies looking to operate from the south coast of Panama for Pacific cruises.
