Torrijos opens the first 35 kilometers of the highway Panama – Colon
The President of the republic, Martin Torrijos, authorized the traffic in the Alberto Motta Cardoze highway, in approximately 35 kilometers, from the sector of Creek Lopez up to Madden in the province of Colon.
Torrijos said that the colonenses and Panamanians will be able to use this section without any cost for some 30 days. “This highway represents the fulfillment of a dream requested by the colonenses for more than 30 years “, he expressed.
The work constructed in approximately 25 months by the company Odebrecht, consists of four rails, surface of tread of concrete and central drainage.
” It is a great party, because I know that the colonenses will want to feast what undoubtedly, does a great difference for the population and the commercial movement, which changes the quality of life of thousands of persons “, Torrijos emphasized.
This megaproject has a potential meant to improve the daily traffic between the cities of Panama and Colon, since it allows reducing to 25 minutes the time of movement between both places.
For their part, Digna Donado and Giovanni Ferrari, ex-chairwoman and president, respectively, of the Users’ Association of the Free Zone of Colon, coincided in highlighting the importance of the work that for a long time was waited by businessman and inhabitants.
