![]() Tocumen International AirportThe airport is centrally located, a mere 24km outside of Panama City, and boasts many modern and updated facilities. The airport is currently one of the busiest transport hubs in South and Central America, and receives flights from all major centers across the world. Major improvements to the airport in 2006, has contributed to the success of this hub, and subsequently the facilities here are superior to those in surrounding South and Central American regions. The current airport and structure is the largest and the busiest in the region. The original airport was inaugurated in 1947, and this area is now used as a cargo terminal. The airport consists of two main runways with a third back up for increased traffic. The airport is managed and administered by the State owned Tocumen SA, and continues expansion projects in terms of equipment and facilities. Tocumen is estimated to process over 4,5 million processes in the 2008 year.
