Beaches in Panama
Besides the fact the Panama is strategically situated on the Isthmus of Panama, the country is literally surrounded by water, the Caribbean Sea on the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south. This bodes extremely well for the beach lover. There are countless beaches in Panama on the mainland as well as various surrounding islands. From the western side of Panama, one can swim, snorkel and scuba in the shallow waters, off the Zapatillas Keys, allowing one to adventure into the coral reef. For eco tourists, if you are lucky enough you may see one of the four species of turtle laying their eggs there, during the rainy season. Zapatillas is accessible by air, boat and road. La Barqueta beach is to the south of the Zapatillas, and offers the Pacific Ocean frontage, and an ideal spot for snorkeling and kite surfing. Playa Damas, known for its checkered look is also called checkered beach. Playa Damas is located in the province of Colon; the miles of beachfront offer almost unlimited activities of snorkeling, swimming, boat rides and much more. Even if one wants to get away from civilization there are opportunities like visiting Gobernadora Island, which is an island located off the south western coast of Panama, opportunities to view dolphins with their young and to get in touch with nature.
